Barclays is today expected to announce it has hired a new head for its Asia Pacific private banking division as part of its push to become one of the leading operators in the fast-growing sector.
Barclays Wealth, the private wealth arm of the UK-based bank, has recruited Didier von Daeniken, Credit Suisse's former co-head of Asia Pacific private banking who resigned this month.
He will be based in Singapore and start work on June 1, after a period of “gardening leave”.
Recruiting Mr von Daeniken will be seen as a coup for Barclays, which ranks far behind market leaders such as UBS, Citigroup, HSBC and Credit Suisse in Asia Pacific private banking.
